Camp Curriculum
The camp will progress through three key stages, with each month building on the previous to create a comprehensive basketball training experience.
Month 1: Foundation & Fundamentals
Objective: Introduce and refine basic basketball skills while building confidence and understanding of the game.
- Skills Covered:
- Dribbling: Proper hand placement, ball control, stationary and moving dribbles.
- Passing: Chest pass, bounce pass, overhead pass.
- Shooting: Layups, basic form shooting (BEEF: Balance, Eyes, Elbow, Follow-through).
- Defense: Stance, footwork, on-ball defense.
- Movement: Basic footwork drills (jump stops, pivots) and court spacing.
- Dribbling: Proper hand placement, ball control, stationary and moving dribbles.
- Game Play: Small-sided games (e.g., 3-on-3) focusing on applying skills in a controlled setting.
- Conditioning: Age-appropriate agility and endurance drills, including ladder work and cone drills.
- Skills Covered:
Month 2: Intermediate Skill Building
Objective: Reinforce fundamentals while introducing situational play and team concepts.
- Skills Covered:
- Dribbling: Crossover, behind-the-back, and between-the-legs moves.
- Shooting: Spot-up shooting, free throws, and basic mid-range techniques.
- Passing: No-look passes, passing under pressure.
- Defense: Help-side defense, learning to guard screens.
- Rebounding: Boxing out, offensive and defensive rebounding techniques.
- Team Concepts:
- Offensive spacing, basic pick-and-roll.
- Defensive communication, transitioning from offense to defense.
- Game Play: Controlled scrimmages emphasizing teamwork and understanding roles on the court.
- Conditioning: Increased focus on basketball-specific conditioning, including shuttle runs and sprint intervals.
Month 3: Advanced Skills & Strategy
Objective: Combine individual skills with team dynamics, preparing players for competitive scenarios.
- Skills Covered:
- Dribbling: Advanced combos (e.g., hesitation dribble, spin moves).
- Shooting: Catch-and-shoot, off-the-dribble shooting, and shot fakes.
- Passing: Fast-break passing, skip passes, and passing out of double teams.
- Defense: Zone defense basics, defending against fast breaks.
- Movement: Reading defenders, cutting, and creating space.
- Team Concepts:
- Offensive sets and motion offense.
- Defensive rotations, zone vs. man-to-man strategies.
- End-of-game scenarios (timeouts, clock management).
- Game Play: Full-court scrimmages with coached timeouts to reinforce strategy and decision-making.
- Conditioning: High-intensity drills focusing on explosive movements, speed, and stamina.
